About Prayer

You’re not absolutely alone and abandoned. You’ve got a link to the source of all power - prayer!

Absolutely anyone can make prayer work. It’s built into us and it’s incredibly powerful.

Why powerful? Well, life wears us down – our batteries get low. Prayer mainlines us to God who cares so much about us. Prove it? – Let’s give it a go!

  1. Get somewhere quiet if you can. If you can’t it still works – relax and let a quiet space create itself around you.
  2. Make the invitation – ask God into your space. Remember – you have free will – God respects that, and always waits for the invitation into your space.
  3. Listen – if you can. You may want to scream at God, or give him a piece of your mind. If you really must, do it! But remember, you’re entering God territory, and he knows you better than you know yourself. Eventually you will run out of steam and start listening!
  4. The rest is very personal between you and God. If you need a bit of help here, have a look what Jesus recommends: -

The Lord’s Prayer

  1. God – I know you’re there for me, and you see me as your very own creation. I respect you!
Father in Heaven – Hallowed be your name.
  2. I know you’ve got a really perfect master plan, and I know it's going to turn out really good.
    Your kingdom come.
  3. Please show me how I fit into your perfect plan, I really want to be part of it.
    Your will be done.
  4. My life hangs by a silken thread. I’m not in charge, and I depend entirely on you.
Give us each day our daily bread.
  5. I’m only human and I often make a mess of things. I’m sorry about that.
    Forgive us our sins.
  6. I’m facing up to the fact - I want a clean start, so I’m thinking about the folks I’ve got grudges against. I need to start treating them like I want you to treat me.
For we also forgive everyone who sins against us.
  7. I don’t know everything, and there are things I’ve got no control over. I don’t always think before acting and then things seem to go wrong. I can’t manage on my own. I need your help in making sensible choices.
And lead us not into temptation.
  8. I can see that not only is there good in this world, but there's also evil. I'm determined to become a spiritual person. I'm going to meet some opposition and I need your protection.
    But deliver us from evil.
