Men's Group
They will come from far and near, in ones and twos, in small and large groups - by bike, car or minibus. They will gather for a weekend. Tents will be put up. BBQs will be lit.
They might know some others there, there will be many that they do not yet know. There will be young and old, from all jobs, all backgrounds and many different types of church. And for one weekend, all these men will gather for one purpose ...
To believe that in our lifetime a committed band of brothers, joined together in purpose, can change a nation. We call this, The Gathering. Join us. Paul Frobisher has booked 8 places for the gathering, Friday 24th to Suday 26th June at Lynt Farm, Nr. Swindo.
Following several visits to CVM (Christian Vision for Men) in Exeter, Paul Frobisher spoke to the Church of the value of, and the neccessity for a Men's Group.
To quote CVM
Why a ministry for men and men alone? And why do we encourage men to do stuff on their own as groups of guys? Are we sexist? Are we encouraging gender division?
First let’s think statistics; Over the last 20 years 38% of believing men left the church. In fact for men aged under 30, nearly 50% left in the same period of time. Now that’s believing men deciding they don’t want to go to church anymore! .........
.........you might say that when a woman walks into a room she looks for people to talk with and relate to. When a man walks into a room he is plotting his escape strategy and looking for the exit door! So men need a forum and a place to forge good strong friendships ..... ....If this isn’t encouraged most men will go into a default “loner” mode.......
........Church culture can also be quite feminine and therefore difficult for many men to get to grips with....... .....Volunteer jobs in the church can also tend towards the more feminine aspects of character; loving, sharing, nurture, compassion. Men seek adventure and challenge.... ....and the wild and adventurous aspects of their personalities can be completely starved in church.
It is planned to hold meetings on the 4th Sunday of every month.
